Energy-Aware Daily Planning
A Planner That Schedules Around Your Capacity
Time-blocking apps assume that if a slot is empty, you can fill it. Anyone who has stared at a perfect plan without starting it knows that is false. MaxDex plans to capacity, then calls when initiation stalls.
What is an energy-based daily planner?
Short answer
A planner that treats your capacity as a scheduling input alongside your availability. Instead of asking only "is this hour free?", it asks "will you be able to do this kind of work in this hour?" and places demanding tasks accordingly.
Conventional time-blocking optimises for availability. It cannot distinguish a 9am hour after eight hours of sleep from a 3pm hour on the fourth short night in a row, because from the calendar's point of view they are identical.
MaxDex builds a 48-hour energy curve from sleep, circadian phase, meals and training load, then uses it to shape the day. High-capacity windows get protected for hard work; low ones get a smaller plan.
Why does time-blocking fail for so many people?
Short answer
Because it solves organisation, and the thing that actually fails is initiation. The plan is finished; the starting is not. Time-blocking assumes the energy to begin already exists, which is exactly the assumption that breaks.
This is the recurring pattern in executive-dysfunction communities: the plan looks perfect, then nothing starts. More taxonomy does not help, because the bottleneck is not knowing what to do — it is the transition into doing it.
The fix has two halves: shrink the first step until it is almost insultingly small, and add an external cue at the moment it should begin. See the intention-to-action gap.

How does the planner know my capacity?
Short answer
From the same Energy Index the rest of the app uses: sleep pressure and debt, circadian phase shifted to your chronotype, meal response, training load and movement — all derived from your phone plus what you log.
Your chronotype is inferred from the circular mean of your sleep midpoints over the past two to three weeks, so a genuine night owl gets a curve that peaks late rather than being told to do deep work at 8am because a productivity book said so.
The full derivation, including every time constant, is at how the Energy Index is calculated.
Does it take over my calendar?
Short answer
No. It syncs two ways with your device calendar so existing commitments are respected, but it proposes rather than imposes. You keep the final say on what goes where.
Rescheduling is not the same as starting, which is why the planner is paired with the check-in call rather than treated as the whole product. A block that moves itself politely around your day still does not get opened.
